STCW Marine Fire Fighting Proficiency Updating Course

This 1 Day, STCW 95 Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting course, accredited by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), is part of the mandatory updating certification requirements under the STCW 2010 amendments for all seafarers with designated safety duties who hold a fire prevention and fire fighting certificate.

The course deals with the precautions needed to minimise the risk of fires, how fires are caused and how to extinguish them. It blends theoretical and practical training, with a focus on using fire fighting equipment with the use of breathing apparatus to extinguish various fires of size and intensity.

All Môn Fire Management STCW courses are held in association with Stena Line, Holyhead and are fully approved by the MCA (Maritime & Coastguard Agency).

Course Aim

The overall aim of this 1 day refresher course is to restate seafarers with the necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency to carry out designated fire duties in accordance with international regulations.

Course Objectives

All persons taking up a career in the Merchant Navy employed or engaged on a seagoing ship, should receive approved training in Basic Fire Prevention and Firefighting enabling them be competent when discovering a fire on-board, to take immediate action and respond to emergencies on board a vessel.

On completion of the course, trainees will have reviewed and recapped the following –

  • Marine Fire Theory
  • Handheld Fire Extinguishers
  • Safe Movement in Smoke
  • Marine Search and Rescue techniques
  • Marine Firefighting
